CIPS Qualifications Ladder

We offer every level of CIPS qualification from Certificate through to Professional Diploma, meaning that you can complete your entire training journey with ABA Procurement.
It is our priority to ensure that all students begin at a level matches their need and ability, and we're always happy to spend time offering guidance in this.

 
 

Advanced Certificate

This is an entry level for to help you to prepare for a career in Procurement and Supply or to get an introduction into the field.

Based on the Tactical and Operational levels of CIPS Global Standard, you will learn how to apply factual, procedural and theoretical knowledge of procurement and supply. You will be able to complete tasks and address problems that are well-defined but may be complex and non-routine. You will understand what relevant information is required and how to interpret and review its effectiveness.

Students studying this level are typically: Administrators, Assistant Buyers, Contracts Analysts, or Stock planners.

Exams: All Level 3 exams are Objective Response (multiple choice) Exams and are 1.5 hours long each.

Diploma

This is the highest entry point to your CIPS study and requires a minimum of at least two A-levels (or equivalent) or a minimum of two years' experience in a business environment. Students at this level will usually be in positions such as: Buyer, Contract officer, or Procurement specialist.

The Diploma consists of 8 modules (two 12 credits and six 6 credits) which cover all of the essential procurement knowledge.

Exams: 12 Credit modules are Constructed Response exams (3 hour essay form), and 6 credit modules are Objective Response (multiple choice) Exams and are 1.5 hours long each.

The Diploma is a valuable management tool for those moving into junior and middle management procurement roles or those supervising the procurement function. It focuses on organisational procedures and processes including negotiation, planning, risk management, and data analysis.

 

 

Advanced  Diploma

Advanced Diploma students must have completed the Diploma level. Typical job titles at this level are: Buyer, Contract officer, Procurement Specialist. This level has additional elective modules available outside of the core ABA taught modules which you are able to take at the end of your study, expanding your knowledge further.

Provides senior buyers, contract and supply chain managers with the expertise to improve organisational procurement and to fulfil organisational objectives. It gives you the knowledge base to reduce cost, improve quality and timescales, manage the supply chain and deal with legal issues.

Exams: two 12 Credit modules are Constructed Response exams (3 hour essay form), and six 6 credit modules are Objective Response (multiple choice) Exams and are 1.5 hours long each.

 

 

Professional Diploma

Professional Diploma students must have completed the Advanced Diploma before continuing to this level. Job titles at this level may include: Procurement Manager, Supply chain manager, Operations manager.

Aimed at senior procurement professionals and heads of department. It is targeted at building strategic direction and advice, in areas such as change management, stakeholder management and team leadership.

Exams: three 12 Credit modules are Constructed Response exams (3 hour essay form), along with L6M4 of the 6 credit exams, and three 6 credit modules are Objective Response (multiple choice) Exams and are 1.5 hours long each.
